Year Long Performance (Day 228), 2021, South Rim, Grand Canyon, AZ

In an attempt to recenter Brace’s visual artwork on her somatic practice during the pandemic Brace performed Year Long Performance, a project where she wore an all-white uniform for the entirety of 2021. Each day Brace performed a gestural movement in the landscape that marked the energy of the day with gratitude and presence. The documentation of this project was then compiled into a calendric system.

Through this work Brace also saw her performance art practice as an extension of her connection to nature. Growing up in rural Maine and now making work in Maine, Brace’s work current work is about place and crisis, viewing performance art as the most sustainable visual art medium.
